DESCRIPTION

SS United States 1952

Soon to be the worlds largest mairine reed, the SS United States is a luxury passenger liner launched in 1952 for the United States Lines designed to capture the trans-Atlantic speed record. The ship was inspired by the British liners the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth .

Built for United States Lines in 1951 at a cost of $78 million, this 990 foot liner, one hundred eight feet longer than the Titanic, was built for speed. She made her maiden voyage on July 3, 1952 and was designed to be the fastest ship to make the Trans-Atlantic crossing & capture the Blue Riband for the fastest crossing by an ocean liner. A goal she not only achieved for both eastbound & westbound runs, but still holds for the westbound route to the present day.

SS United States was the largest ocean liner entirely in the United States, the fastest ocean liner to cross the Atlantic. Her construction partially subsidized by the United States government, the ship was designed to allow conversion to a troop carrier should the need arise. The United States operated uninterrupted in transatlantic passenger service until 1969; since 1996 she docked at Pier 82 on the Delaware River in Philadelphia.

In addition, we selected finest woods and material to build this model. Also, we used plank-on-frame construction method which is similar to the building of the actual ship.

You can find many details of the model such as: All windows, doors, and portholes are cut out precisely thanks to hand-built hollow superstructure and hull; Open promenade decks visible through superstructure windows; Lattice grating on ducts and vents; Detail Lifeboats hung from launching davits; Delicate railings on forecastle, aftcastle and top superstructure; Rigging and stay-lines on all masts and smokestacks. Furthermore, we hand-painted multi-layered to match the color of the real ship.

Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop.
